Police in Ntungamo District have recovered two motor vehicle batteries allegedly stolen from a vehicle in Cell 08, Ntungamo Ward, Ntungamo Town Council.
One suspect, identified as Akampwera Kenneth, has been arrested and is being held by police as investigations continue. Two other suspects, identified as Wilber and Kasinge, are still at large.
The theft is alleged to have occurred during the night of August 20, 2026, when the suspects reportedly removed two batteries from the complainant’s motor vehicle.
Following the report, police officers, accompanied by the Canine Unit, visited the scene and began tracking the suspects.
A sniffer dog named Yuda was deployed at the vehicle. The dog picked up the scent believed to have been left by the individuals who removed the batteries and followed it for about 200 metres along the road.
The trail later turned towards a workshop operated by Kenneth, who reportedly deals in scrap materials.
According to police, the dog entered the workshop and lay down, an indication that the scent trail had ended at the premises.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) subsequently searched the workshop and recovered two motor vehicle batteries.
The complainant later positively identified the recovered batteries as the items reported stolen.
Kenneth was arrested and remains in police custody while he assists detectives with the ongoing investigation. Police are also continuing efforts to locate and arrest Wilber and Kasinge.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and the recovery of the batteries remain under investigation.
