Police wants schools to strictly adhere to safety guidelines

Schools across the country opening for the third term have been urged to abide by the security guidelines issued by Police.

Fred Enanga, the Police spokesman says all schools and higher institutions of learning are expected to strictly adhere to the issued guidelines to prevent any threats of terrorism.

He said: “All learning institutions are required to install metal detectors, fire extinguishers, CCTV cameras. But those who cannot afford them are advised to ensure there are registers at entry points to trace whoever accesses the premises and have security guards around school environments.”

The warnings come handy following the recent increase in terrorism targeting education institutions. A few months back, terrorists killed some 147 most of whom were students at Garissa university in Northern Kenya.

Enanga says operations will be carried out to inspect adherence and warns that whoever will fail to abide will be prosecuted.
