Aviation run raises UGX25m for E’bbe’s ‘Grade B’ ICU

Over 25 million shillings was raised in a charity run held last weekend in Entebbe municipality in commemoration of 75 years of the founding of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The event was organised by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) and was attended by over 1000 participants, majority of whom were from Entebbe and members of the aviation sector

UCAA’s Manager Public Affairs Vianney Luggya told The Sunrise that they sold over 1000 kits at UGX25,000 each which enabled them to receive over UGX25m from the event.

“We were able to sell over 1000 kits at UGX25,000 and the proceeds will be used to equip Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit as it is the nearest hospital in case of an emergency at the airport and the area at large” said Luggya.

Otim Epira the president of the Uganda Aeronautical information service Officers Association (UGAISCOA) hailed runners for turning up for the Aviation run in large numbers as ICAO celebrates 75 years.

Rosemary Tumusiime, the Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament urged UCAA to transform the event into an annual event and expand it to other parts of the country because of the noble cause it serves.

The Mayor of Entebbe Municipality Vincent Paul Kayongo aka Dipo congratulated UCAA and its partners in supporting the health of the people. He pledged his full support for future events.

The Aviation Run was supported by Uganda Airlines, Uganda Aeronautical Information Service Officers Association, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) among others.
