President Yoweri Museveni has pledged Shs2 billion to support a SACCO formed by pastors attending the Big Fix Holy Spirit Global Conference at Miracle Centre Cathedral in Kampala.

Museveni made the pledge after attending the conference, which is being hosted by Miracle Centre Cathedral senior pastor Robert Kayanja and Pastor Jessica Kayanja.

In a statement following his participation in the conference, Museveni said he was pleased to join the gathering and commended the Kayanjas for building an international network that brings together participants from Uganda, other African countries and beyond.

The President also praised Pastor Robert Kayanja for extending his ministry beyond preaching to initiatives focused on production, wealth creation and community empowerment.

Museveni specifically highlighted Kayanja’s agricultural activities in Karamoja and Kiryandongo, saying such initiatives are important in promoting productive activities and improving livelihoods.

The Big Fix Holy Spirit Global Conference opened in Kampala on September 21 and is scheduled to run through September 27. The seven-day gathering has attracted Christians from Uganda, other African countries and other parts of the world.

At the opening of the conference, Pastor Kayanja said the event was focused on spiritual restoration, wisdom and addressing different forms of brokenness in people’s lives. The programme has brought together several international ministers and Christian leaders for a series of meetings and teachings.

Beyond the spiritual programme, discussions involving international delegates have also touched on economic and social development. A meeting held at Miracle Centre Cathedral during the conference brought together representatives from different parts of the world to discuss strategies for spiritual and economic development.

Museveni used his participation to reiterate his long-standing call for greater African and East African economic integration.

He said the call for African and East African integration was particularly welcome because a united African market is important for producers and the prosperity of African people.

The President has repeatedly linked regional and continental integration to economic growth, arguing that Uganda's producers need access to larger markets. In February 2026, he described continental economic integration as a pathway to shared prosperity and highlighted the opportunities presented by the East African, COMESA and wider African markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Museveni has also previously urged religious leaders to play a role in mobilising their congregations for wealth creation. In September 2025, he told Born-Again leaders that economic empowerment and spiritual growth could move together, and encouraged religious leaders to guide their followers towards productive economic activities.

At the Big Fix conference, Museveni welcomed the formation of the pastors’ SACCO and said he had pledged Shs2 billion towards the initiative.

He said the support was intended to encourage people to work together, engage in production and create wealth.

SACCOs, or Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations, are commonly used in Uganda to enable members to save collectively and access credit. The government has promoted SACCOs and other cooperative structures as part of broader efforts to improve access to affordable finance and support household income-generating activities.

The Shs2 billion pledge comes as the Big Fix conference continues to draw religious leaders and participants from Uganda and abroad, with the organisers combining spiritual programmes with discussions touching on relationships, leadership, development and economic empowerment.

For Museveni, the conference provided an opportunity to connect the role of religious institutions with his broader message on production, wealth creation, regional integration and access to markets.

The President said the initiatives being promoted by religious leaders, including agricultural projects and the newly formed SACCO, can contribute to efforts aimed at encouraging Ugandans to work together and participate in productive economic activities.
