MTN Uganda is helping drive Africa’s electric mobility revolution by providing the digital infrastructure behind Uganda’s locally manufactured electric buses.

Today, Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, and her executive team toured Kiira Motors Corporation in Jinja, guided by founding CEO Paul Isaac Musasizi. The visit highlighted discussions on MoMo enabled e-mobility, IoT tracking, 5G and smart infrastructure.

Mulinge said that witnessing Uganda’s leadership in electric mobility and digital innovation and seeing the level of engineering excellence behind the buses being was truly inspiring, From the historic Pearl to Cape expedition to the technology powering these buses, Mulinge sad that MTN remains committed to connecting progress sustainably across Africa.

The Pearl to Cape expedition in November 2025 saw Kayoola E-Coaches travel 13,000 km from Uganda to Cape Town and back, demonstrating the reliability of Uganda’s electric buses. MTN Uganda powered the digital layer of this journey, integrating IoT tracking and mobile payment systems to support smooth operations.

Adding to the momentum, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) recently acquired four Kayoola E-Coaches and one Kayoola EVS, becoming the first institution in Africa to operate a fully electric fleet manufactured locally. MTN Uganda’s technology enables seamless operation of these buses, bridging digital innovation and sustainable transport.

Kiira Motors Corporation emphasized that modern electric mobility requires more than vehicles, it needs connectivity. MTN Uganda’s support ensures that Uganda’s e-mobility ecosystem is smart, reliable, and future-ready.

With this partnership, Uganda is demonstrating how local engineering excellence and digital innovation can drive clean, connected transport solutions across Africa.
