The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Nateete–Nakawuka Road in Kampala as construction works continue under the ongoing road upgrade project.

According to a public notice issued on May 13, 2026, the affected road section around Nateete will be closed effective May 15, 2026, for approximately three months to facilitate the installation of drainage culverts.

The closure will affect the stretch between the Mutundwe Road junction and the Old Masaka Road junction, an area known for heavy traffic congestion during peak hours.

Authorities say the works are aimed at improving drainage, reducing flooding, and increasing the durability of the road infrastructure once the upgrade project is completed.

Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes during the construction period. Recommended diversions include Old Masaka Road, Masaka Road, and Entebbe Road through Kajjansi, as well as the Mutundwe and Wankulukuku connecting roads.

The Ministry urged all road users to follow traffic guidance from officers on site and observe directional signage placed along diversion routes to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety.

The notice was signed by Bageya Waiswa, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Works and Transport.

The temporary closure is expected to impact daily commuters and businesses operating along the Nateete corridor, but officials say the long-term benefits of improved drainage and better road conditions will significantly enhance transport efficiency in the area.
