We frustrated Nyakato – Bobi Wine
The Kyadondo East legislator and leader of the People Power movement Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu a.k.a Bobi Wine has linked Asinansi Nyakato’s defeat in the Hoima by-election to frustrations from the opposition.
Nyakato, officially of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), was endorsed by the general opposition to stand against the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Harriet Mugenyi in the Hoima district woman MP race. The position fell vacant when the previous MP, Tophace Kaahwa Byagira, opted to represent the newly created Kikuube district.
Businge on Thursday beat Nyakato with over 4000 votes. She was declared winner at around 3am on Friday with 33,301 votes against Nyakato’s 28,789 votes.
In a post on his facebook page, Kyagulanyi said that they lost the Hoima polls due to some people in opposition, whom he didn’t name.
“It defeated all logic to see some leaders, apparently in the opposition do everything to frustrate Comrade Nyakato’s victory simply because she embraced and identified with the People Power,” Kyagulanyi stated.
He said some opposition leaders were considering their party and personal interests instead of focusing on the interests of Ugandans.
“We condemn these behaviors and must have discussions to decide what’s important for all of us instead of focusing on personal interests,” he said.
Kyagulanyi also expressed dissatisfaction with the elections which he said were dominated with high levels of malpractices.
“I want to join my fellow leaders and other Ugandans in condemning the high levels of election malpractices and impunities that were displayed in this election.
“Our teams on the ground spent days in running battles with vehicles which had pre-ticked ballots in favour of the NRM candidate,” he added.
