Kudos to Gen. Kale Kayihura
If only Gen. Kayihura could make this a habit then I think we would have a very competent police force. Did you know that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), sacked all crime intelligence officers and three police commanders in the Kampala Metropolitan area on grounds that they failed to prevent crime and alleged connivance with criminal gangs?
Yes, but he just did. In his statement, he informed us that the services of police intelligence chiefs are no longer needed since they have failed to identify gangs which terrorize city residents to which I totally agree with him.
For how long have we been suffering with the incompetence and corruption tendencies of police officers and nothing serious is done to curb those tendencies?
Kayihura’s decision to fire those officers has been long in waiting. It’s not my joy to see these officers unemployed because it is a hard world out here but when it comes to the safety of people, I would rather not tolerate negligence and incompetence.
I don’t know how many intelligence officers were fired but even if it was one person, I would still applaud Gen. Kayihura. These are the people who have completely let us down, exposing our lives to danger simply because they don’t care to do their jobs.
If criminal gangs are on the rise, what we need are officers who are committed to enforcing law and order and ensure our safety and peace. I wish President Museveni could also emulate Kayihura’s actions, I believe we would have a corrupt free country.
