
Ethiopian Airlines has announced a significant expansion of its fleet with the confirmation of six additional Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The new order strengthens the airline’s long-haul operations and supports its continued growth in both passenger and cargo services.
The announcement confirms the conversion of options from a previously placed 2023 order, marking a strategic step in the airline’s long-term expansion plan.
Strengthening Long-Haul Connectivity from Addis Ababa
The new Boeing 787-9 aircraft will be deployed to expand Ethiopian Airlines’ intercontinental network from its main hub in Addis Ababa.
The airline plans to use the additional aircraft to; Increase capacity on high-demand international routes, strengthen cargo transport operations, and improve efficiency on long-haul destinations across Europe, Asia, and North America.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew described the purchase as a milestone in the airline’s modernization strategy, emphasizing sustainable growth and improved passenger experience through ultra-modern aircraft.
