Uganda Government Backs Inspire Africa Coffee Park to Boost Value Addition and Jobs
The Government of Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to agro-industrialisation by supporting the Inspire Africa Coffee Park, also known as the Africa Coffee Park, in Ntungamo District. The 150-acre facility is set to enhance coffee value addition, create jobs, and increase export earnings, while positioning Uganda as a regional leader in coffee processing.
During an official visit, Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development (general duties), Hon. Henry Musasizi, on his first tour of the facility, assessed the progress of construction and operational readiness, alongside Hon. Amos Kankunda, the Member of Parliament for Rwampara County and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance.
According to Inspire Africa Group Chief Executive Officer, Nelson Tugume, construction is nearing completion, with advanced processing technologies, including roasting, spray drying, and freeze drying, already installed to enable large-scale production of high-value coffee products.
The facility could process up to 11% of Uganda’s national coffee output, significantly boosting farmer incomes and strengthening the country’s competitiveness in global coffee markets.
Products, Tourism, and Market Expansion
The Africa Coffee Park will produce a wide range of products, including; Roasted coffee, Ground coffee, Drip coffee, Instant coffee, derivatives such as cosmetics and ready-to-drink cold brew beverages.
The Park also integrates coffee tourism and domestic consumption initiatives, promoting “patriotism in coffee” and expanding local market opportunities.
Infrastructure, Governance, and Special Economic Zone Potential
Tugume highlighted ongoing infrastructure requirements for full operational capacity, including 20 megawatts of electricity and two million litres of food-grade water daily. To address these gaps, work is underway on a dedicated power line from Mirama Hills substation and a water pipeline from Kahengye near the Rukungiri border.
Musasizi confirmed continued government backing and pledged support to designate the Park as a Special Economic Zone, expected to attract additional investment to the region. He also emphasized strengthening road networks and collaborating with the Ministries of Finance and Science, Technology and Innovation to ensure innovations at the Park are effectively commercialized for domestic and international markets.
Strategic Alignment and Economic Impact
The Inspire Africa Coffee Park aligns directly with Uganda’s 4th National Development Plan (NDPIV 2025/2026–2029/2030), which identifies coffee as one of six key agricultural value chains targeted for value addition.
The project is expected to boost employment, particularly for young people in Ntungamo and surrounding regions, enhance export earnings through processed and value-added coffee products, strengthen Uganda’s position in regional and global coffee markets, and serve as a model for industrialization and innovation in the agro-processing sector.
