Police at Natete Division have taken four people into custody, among them a doctor from the health facility where the late Nalubwama Caroline was first treated after sustaining severe injuries. The 25-year-old woman, who later succumbed at Kiruddu Hospital, reportedly sustained the injuries at the Makindye Division residence of socialite Brian Kirumira, popularly known as Bryan White, located in Kyamula.

According to police reports, White claimed that Nalubwama’s injuries resulted from a gas cylinder explosion that occurred while she was cooking. He also reportedly sustained burns and remains hospitalized under police surveillance as the prime suspect in the case. Family sources revealed that Nalubwama, who had recently returned from Dubai, was in a romantic relationship with the socialite.

Her grieving parents have rejected the unclear explanations surrounding her death and have called for an exhaustive investigation. They suspect foul play, even suggesting that she “may have been sacrificed.” During a search at the scene, police allegedly found grass-thatched structures believed to be shrines.

The deceased’s father, Ssalongo Tom Mutyaba, told investigators that the suspect personally informed him about his daughter’s death, claiming that she died “while receiving treatment at the shrine.” This revelation prompted detectives to widen the scope of their investigation. As part of the ongoing inquiry, the murder case file was recently moved from Katwe to Natete Police Division to allow for a more detailed probe.

Detectives are now reviewing CCTV footage and analyzing evidence collected from the crime scene to establish the actual cause of death. While addressing journalists at Naguru Police Headquarters, Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire revealed inconsistencies in the statements given by the suspect and medical records.

“Bryan White told police that the deceased was burned on October 24th and that he reported the incident on October 27th. However, evidence shows she was admitted to Mabilizi Nursing Home on Entebbe Road on October 22nd and remained there until October 27th, when she was transferred to Kiruddu Hospital due to worsening condition,” Owoyesigyire said.

Investigations further indicate that the victim was detained at the private health facility because White allegedly refused to settle her medical expenses, despite her deteriorating condition over several days.

“Investigations suggest that Bryan White attempted to settle the matter privately without involving police, despite the victim’s worsening condition. The hospital withheld her care due to unpaid medical bills. Our teams have since arrested Joyce Irene Nambalirwa, the facility owner, for negligence and withholding the deceased,” Owoyesigyire added.

In addition to Nambalirwa, police have arrested three more individuals, Daiz Nalunga, Dafine Abaho, and Nava Nakato, who is Bryan White’s wife. Meanwhile, White remains hospitalized under close police watch as the key suspect in the case.

Bryan White is no stranger to controversy. In 2017, he and his bodyguard faced attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting a neighbor, Victor Bitwire. Though the case was later dismissed, he spent time in prison before being released on bail. He again faced legal trouble in 2020, when he was arrested over fraud and unpaid debts, including allegedly obtaining luxury items under false pretenses. He was reportedly detained for several days before partially settling the debt.
