With only a few days remaining to polling day, Uganda has entered a critical phase of the electoral process as political candidates intensify campaigns across the country through rallies, media engagements, and direct community outreach.
As campaign activities reach their peak, the Uganda Police Force has issued a strong warning against election-related violence, urging citizens and political actors to exercise restraint and uphold peace throughout the electoral period. Security authorities emphasized that criminal acts cannot be justified under any circumstances, regardless of political affiliation.
Addressing the nation, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Ubaldo Bamunoba called on Ugandans to reject provocation and demonstrate political maturity by participating peacefully in the elections. "I wish to remind the public that there is no justification whatsoever for engaging in criminal acts in the name of elections. Citizens are therefore urged to exercise maximum restraint and reject violence, even when provoked by political opponents. Peaceful participation in the electoral process is a clear demonstration of political maturity and must be upheld at all times", said AIGP Ubaldo Bamunoba.
The public has been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any incidents of violence, intimidation, or disorder to the nearest police station or security authority for immediate and appropriate action. According to police leadership, timely reporting will help ensure a swift response and maintain public order.
The Uganda Police Force, working closely with other security agencies, reassured the country of its total commitment to securing the electoral process at all levels, including campaigns, polling day activities, and post-election operations.
"As a country, we have made significant progress in the management of elections, and it is our collective responsibility to safeguard these gains by promoting peaceful engagement and respect for the rule of law", AIGP Bamunoba said.
Police also reminded political aspirants that credible leadership is built on discipline, responsibility, and respect for democratic principles, noting that clean leadership is a product of clean conduct. Authorities stressed that effective leadership can only be achieved by individuals who uphold high standards of behavior during the electoral process.
Reinforcing the importance of peace, AIGP Bamunoba underscored that national stability and democratic progress depend on calm and orderly elections. "Above all, peace must remain the defining value before, during, and after the elections. It is only through peace that we can protect our democracy and ensure a stable and prosperous future for our nation", said AIGP Bamunoba.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), AIGP Tom Magambo, assured Ugandans of a peaceful election, warning that any individuals planning to threaten citizens, regardless of political affiliation, will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
As Uganda heads into the final days before voting, security agencies continue to call on all stakeholders to prioritize peace, respect the rule of law, and participate responsibly in the democratic process.
