Boat cruise accident a disaster to the entertainment industry
The Boat Cruise is meant for entertainment and pleasure – just like any other leisure event organised on land. With both ordinary and VIP classes, people are entertained with thrilling performances from artistes and with lots of drinks and nyamakyoma.
On the 24th of November 2018, pleasure seeking Ugandans boarded an un registered and unlicensed boat from KK beach Gaba to Mutoola Island on Lake Victoria. Unfortunately, the boat capsized and many died.
Following what happened, many are still in fear. The cruise organisers are likely to make loses. Phillip, who cancelled his boat cruise that was slated for 1st December 2018, talked to Sunrise’s Rafiki:
“What happened on Lake Victoria is just like any other accident that happens on land. It is unfortunate that we learnt the hardest way. Recently we called for a meeting about people’s safety on water with fellow organisers and the turn up was low. Many organisers know nothing about life on water, they organise simply because they have fans that are willing to go along with them.”
Many artistes are still in shock since the lost souls were fashion stylists, great fans and supporters of the industry. Through different social media platforms, they expressed their loss:
“My heart and prayers are with the families of those who have lost their loved ones in the unfortunate accident on Lake Victoria. We are with you in pain and sorrow. May their souls rest in eternal peace,” said Bebe Cool
Bobi wine also poured his heart out:
“I lost several personal friends in the accident and it is extremely painful. We continue to pray for the families of those who lost loved ones, and for a quick recovery to those who are nursing injuries”
Douglas Lwanga, host of the purple party and NBS television’s After Five presenter wrote this:
“You’re supposed to be the last king, you can’t die now. This Damn Boat cruise claimed your life bro, wakeup Chuck Wakeup u can’t just die like that. This must be a bad dream.
Gone too soon”
Juliana Kanyomozi, another celebrated artiste also wrote in memory of Chuck:
“Thank you for making me look and feel fabulous with every outfit you handpicked for me, but most of all thank you for being my friend. I’m going to miss you terribly Chucky.”
