Museveni, Mbabazi nominated for 2016 presidential race
It is now confirmed that former political allies Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and his erstwhile right hand man John Patrick Amama Mbabazi are set to fight for the most powerful office in the land.
The duo were nominated for Presidency by the Electoral Commission on Tuesday after the electoral body confirmed they had fulfilled the requirements for nomination.
In a press meeting he addressed at Namboole, Museveni said he plans to focus on developing agriculture. It is the fourth time Museveni is being nominated to campaign for presidency.
After Museveni’s nomination, Mbabazi secured his historic and first nomination for presidency.
After Namboole, Museveni addressed thousands of his supporters at Kololo ceremonial grounds where they feasted on food, drinks and lots of entertainment.
On the other hand, Mbabazi hosted his supporters at Nakivubo World War II memorial grounds.
According to EC officials, Mbabazi chose the chair as his symbol on the ballot paper.
Celebrations by both camps of both presidential hopefuls were however interrupted by a heavy afternoon downpour.
The Electoral Commission closed the first day of nominations with the approval of Prof. Venancious Baryamureeba. Baryamureeba chose the clock as his symbol on the ballot paper.
