Kyabazinga of Busoga appoints cabinet
The Kyabazinga of Busoga William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Nadiope Gabula IV has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Joseph Muvawala, as the the substantive Prime Minister of Busoga. Muvawala is also the Executive Director of the National Planning Authority, the country’s authority on planning purposes.
Muvawala has been performing the functions of Katukiro, although he had been appointed September 2014 as the chairman of the interim committee that was running the kingdom affairs, when the Kyabazinga was heading to the United Kingdom to further his masters degree.
Muvawala was appointed alongside an educationist and Busoga diehard Lauben Lufafa as his deputy.
A few days after his appointment, the Kyabazinga appointed a full cabinet of 21 miniaters and 12 state ministers to help him in running the affairs of the kingdom. The appointment of the substantive prime minister and the cabinet has been hailed as a milestone in restoring the turbulent Busoga kingdom which has been battered by a leadership wrangle.
Before his installation as the Kyabazinga of Busoga, Nadiope’s legitimacy had been widely contested especially by the family of the late Kyabazinga Henry Wako Muloki who passed away in September 2008. Muloki’s son Edward Colombus Wambuzi has marshaled the support of some of Busoga’s chiefs as well as some politicians to fight for the top seat of the kingdom.
Dr. Muvawala will be deputized by Prof. Mohammed Lubega Kisambira and Osman Noordin Ahmed as first and Second Deputy Prime Minister respectively.
The announcement and subsequent swear-in of the new office bearers was made at Busoga Lukiiko by the kingdom spokesperson Andrew Ntange in the presence of the Kyabazinga.
Muvawala and his deputies were immediately sworn-in by Jinja court magistrate Peter Mutala amid ululations and chanting from the fully packed Lukiiko that comprised among others political leaders, cultural leaders, all the ten hereditary chiefs and Busoga loyalists.
In his maiden speech, Muvawala pledged to work closely with all his predecessors, hereditary chiefs, clan leaders and other stakeholders to ensure Busoga regains its past glory.
“I am sure that Busoga can only move forward when all the eleven hereditary chiefdoms are brought on board to work together and this is now our task and priority. None of us is either old or young but
relevant for combining our efforts for development of Busoga,” Muvawala said.
He openly told the congregation that people in Busoga should bear with the new leadership as they step up efforts to restore harmony in Busoga especially in repossessing Busoga’s property.
Following his confirmation of Muvawala, on Wednesday, the Kyabazinga appointed a new cabinet for Busoga Kingdom and it comprises some old as well as new faces.
Meanwhile, the apparent calm in Busoga is disturbed by the absence of controversial chiefs for Butende and Bunya.
Some members of Busoga contend that the institution should re-admit the two controversial hereditary chiefs namely Yasin Waguma Ntembe for Butembe chiefdom and Juma Munulo for Bunya chiefdom.
Dr. Muvawala thereafter hosted the guests including the Kyabazinga at a reception at his home in Kivubuka in Budondo Sub County.
