Besigye prevented from holding long-awaited procession
Uganda Police this morning acted swiftly to prevent a long-awaited procession by former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer Dr. Kizza Besigye who was returning to Uganda from a tour of Europe and the US through Entebbe.
In a news conference he addressed at his residence in Kasangati, Besigye said he was hijacked by security operatives on the stairs as he was disembarking from the Kenya Airways plane.
Besigye said: “I have been kidnapped by at the door steps as I was disembarking Kenya Air ways plan. People who grabbed me and lifted me were dressed in Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) before switching me to police van. Passengers on the plane must have thought I am a terrorist because of the way I was arrested when the plane touched down,” said Besigye.
Following his ‘hijacking’, Besigye was air lifted to his home in Kasangati by the Police. Police spokesperson Andrew Felix Kawesi had warned on Sunday that Police would not allow any processions on Entebbe road, because it is the country’s gateway and thus must not have hold-ups of political nature.
Besigye’s homecoming had been widely advertised by the party and had attracted interest from his supporters many of whom lined the Entebbe-Kampala road to wave to him.
