The National Water and Sewerage Corporation has launched its Strategic Plan 2025–2030, setting out a five-year roadmap aimed at expanding access to safe and reliable water and sanitation services across Uganda.
Under the new strategy, NWSC plans to increase the population served from 19.5 million to 26.2 million people by 2030. The Corporation also aims to expand water connections to 1.294 million in order to bring clean and dependable water services closer to households, businesses, and communities nationwide.
The Strategic Plan further focuses on improving operational efficiency through the reduction of Non-Revenue Water from 34 per cent to 28 per cent. According to NWSC, this is intended to minimise water losses, improve service reliability, and strengthen financial sustainability.
In addition, the plan incorporates climate resilience and environmental protection measures designed to safeguard water sources and strengthen infrastructure against the effects of climate change.
NWSC said implementation of the Strategic Plan will require approximately Shs 6.79 trillion. The funding is expected to come from internal resources, Government support, and development partners.
The Corporation noted that the investments are expected to support infrastructure expansion, improve public health, create employment opportunities, and contribute to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
NWSC also called upon stakeholders, development partners, local leaders, and communities to support the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan in pursuit of universal access to safe water and improved sanitation services across the country.
