Nominations Open Soon for Parish Special Interest Group Committees
The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that nominations for candidates vying for positions on parish-level committees for Special Interest Groups (SIGs), including youth, older persons, and persons with disabilities, will take place on June 26th and 27th, 2025.
Julius Mucunguzi, the spokesperson for the Electoral Commission, confirmed that interested candidates can pick up their nomination forms from their respective sub-county, ward, or town council headquarters.
To be eligible for nomination, aspirants must have previously been elected to their respective village-level committees for youth, older persons, or persons with disabilities. This requirement ensures that those seeking to serve at the parish level have already demonstrated leadership and representation within their communities.
The EC further clarified that the electorate for these parish-level committees will consist solely of the corresponding village-level committees. For example, the village committees for youth within a particular parish will collectively elect the parish-level youth committee. This electoral college system aims to ensure representation from the grassroots.
The Electoral Commission encourages all eligible candidates to actively participate in this nomination process. They also emphasised the importance of adhering strictly to the guidelines and procedures established for these crucial elections, which form part of the broader roadmap for the 2025/2026 General Elections.
