Venue of M7-Opposition meeting threatens IPOD talks
President Yoweri Museven has reportedly accepted to hold talks with opposition political leaders under Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue at State House Entebbe to discuss different issues including transition of power.
But the venue of the talks is threatening to scupper the well-intentioned move as some in the opposition have expressed misgivings about being hosted by Museveni at State House Entebbe.
Forum for Democratic Change’s Deputy President for eastern region Salam Musumba told NRM’s Secretary General Kasule Lumumba that as FDC they are not ready to meet Museveni at State House but rather at the Party’s Headquarters at Plot 10 Kyadondo road as has been happening with other political party leaders.
The dispute emerged during a meeting between Political party representatives who had paid a courtesy call to the NRM secretariat located at Plot 10, Kyadondo.
NRM secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba, asked the Chairperson of IPOD Fred Ebiru to convince members of other political parties to meet Museveni at State House Entebbe.
Meanwhile, Lumumba trashed Minister Kahinda Otafiire’s comments he made to the effect that the Dialogue is useless and the NRM was not to be part of it. Lumumba says NRM are ready to work talk with other parties for the betterment of the country especially on resolving political differences.
“Otafiire made his own remarks and they were not words of the party, the chairman of the party Yoweri Museven is going to launch the dialogue on November 21st and the party position was very clear. We are a party of dialogue. We have to decide for our country,” Lumumba said.
Democratic Party’s Secretary General Gerald Siranda says that holding talks is a signal that the leaders can work together for the better future of this country.
“It’s we the leaders and political parties that can drive this. We have to be in a driving sit, the church will come in later and other participants,” Siranda said
The chairman of IPOD and also the Secretary general of UPC Fred Ebiru, nonetheless promised that they will deliver the massage to the FDC party leadership who have refused the idea of meeting the Chairperson of the NRM at State House.
