UPDF warns of forgery as recruitment of 10,000 LDUs commences
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has warned against forgery and impersonation in the ongoing recruitment of Local Défense Unit personnel (LDUs) exercise.
The recruitment exercise which commenced on August 23, 21 and ends on September 16, 2021 targets Ugandans aged 18-29 years with a minimum of UCE certificates.
Addressing Journalists at Wakiso district headquarters today, Maj. Charles Kabona the First Division UPDF spokesperson said any candidate who will present forged documents will be automatically disqualified from the exercise and handed over to police for further management.
“Those who bring forged documents are to be disqualified and arrested, we have a team at the headquarter that will look through all the CVS submitted, in case of forgeries or briberies the participants will automatically be disqualified,” Kabona Said.
Kabona also urged LC1 chairpersons and GISOs not to issue recommendation letters to people with bad criminal records to avoid tainting the image of the forces once they go back to work in the communities.
In a statement issued last week by the Force’s spokesperson, Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso, the recruitment exercise will last about four weeks [August 23 to September 16]
“Hand written applications to be submitted to the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) strictly between August 23 to 27. Must indicate nationality, age, marital status, and accompanied with national identification card and academic credentials,” the statement read.
The shortlist will then be pinned at the respective district headquarters from September 2 to 16 and dates of reporting to recruitment centres will be announced.
“Applicants must be Ugandan citizens aged 18 to 29, medically, physically fit and must hold UCE or artisan certificate with good conduct and no criminal record. Letter of recommendation from the LC or GISO is a must,” the statement further read.
Meanwhile Maj. Kabona said that the applicants should not be married, pregnant or have kids since the training will require full time commitment.
