Uganda’s Electoral Commission is intensifying preparations for the 2026 General Elections by opening accreditation for national and international election observers and media practitioners. The process, mandated under Section 16 (1) of the Electoral Commission Act, is designed to ensure transparency and professionalism across all stages of the elections.
All observers working in the Kampala Region, which includes Mukono, Wakiso, and Kampala City, will be accredited at the Electoral Commission Headquarters, while observers in other districts will be accredited at district or city electoral offices by the District Accreditation Committees.
Accreditation covers the pre-polling period, polling days, vote counting, results declaration, and post-polling processes. The Commission is encouraging observers and media organizations to submit applications early to avoid delays.
“Accreditation is essential for ensuring transparency, professionalism, and orderly conduct during all stages of the electoral process,” the Chairperson said.
Experts say this structured approach to observer and media accreditation will boost public confidence, enhance reporting accuracy, and contribute to a smoother electoral process in Uganda’s multi-phase elections scheduled between January 15 and February 6, 2026.
