Pregnant girl camps in toilet
A 16-year-old girl has resorted to staying in a public toilet at Iganga market after her parents chased her away from home in Mukono district for being pregnant.
The unlucky girl whose name has been withheld because she’s a minor, I was exhausted, tired and hungry so I decided to camp here and since then I have been sleeping in this toilet along the road” she said.
The officer in charge of family protection at Iganga Police Joy Ruzigula condemned the parents and added that they were collaborating with their counterparts in Mukono to try to resolve the matter.
Meanwhile an angry mob in Iganga last Friday lynched a suspected thief whom they allegedly caught red-handed stealing a cow. The deceased identified by local authorities as Ismail Malingumu is said to have sneaked into George Tibiita’s farm at around 1.00am in the night and stole one of his bulls.
South Eastern Regional police spokesperson, Samson Lubega said that Malingumu tried to escape the grip of the angry locals but was overpowered by the mob that responded to the night alarm beating him to death.
Lubega appealed to the public to stop killing criminal suspects but instead hand them over to the police to allow the full arm of the police resolve the matters.
According to Police, Malingumu is the fourth suspected thief to be lynched by angry residents in Iganga district in a period of just 6 weeks.
