Besigye supporters arrested over pro-Besigye demo
Police in Kampala yesterday arrested five youth claiming to be supporters of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) as they waved posters calling for Dr. Kizza Besigye to vie for the party’s flag in the coming FDC Delegates Conference set for August.
Micheal Musani, said that the youth were arrested for engaging in unlawful assembly.
“We are not going to allow lawlessness in the country,” Musani added: “They were planning to cause a mass uprising and we will not tolerate that.”
He said that the police had not been notified about the demonstration.
The arrested youth say they want Besigye for contest the next general election and would like him to challenge party president Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu for the party’s flag. Gen Muntu announced earlier this week that he will run for the flag bearer position in FDC, which will be competed for in the party’s delegates conference slated for August 2015.
The youth claim that they have already collected Ushs100 million to assist Besigye in his mobilization efforts.
