Court blocks nomination of Minister Nantaba

Lands state minister Aidah Nantaba threatened to risk her ministerial job but contest as an independent for the Woman MP seat for Kayunga district

The High Court in Jinja on Tuesday ordered for an investigation into the academic papers of Minister for Lands who is also Kayunga District Woman MP Aidah Nantaba. The court also blocked the minister from participating into the nominations for Members of Parliament that were scheduled for October 2-3, 2015.

In an emotional reaction to the court’s decision, a teary Nantaba rejected the decision by Jinja High Court Justice Godfrey Namundi as unfair and politically influenced by land grabbers whom she has battled for many years.

Nantaba said the judge passed judgement before hearing her side of the story since he rejected copies of the academic papers.

The hesty decision arose after two voters from Kayunga, I.e Bruhan Kasumba and Margaret Nabasirye questioned the authenticity of Nantaba’s academic papers.

In their petition the duo accuse Nantaba of using someone’s academic papers masquerading as hers.

“The issue should be first rectified before proceeding with the nominations, there is need for this court to prove whether the papers you posses are indeed yours,” the judge said.

Through her lawyers Asuman Nyonyintono of Wagabaza and co. Advocates Nantaba vowed to petition the Court of Appeal to lift the High Court injunction.

Nantaba said: “I am surprised that the Mafias have infiltrated the Judiciary, how can a learned judge base on a copy an unsigned Curriculum Vita which was produced in Court by the petitioners to make a ruling.”

She accused tycoon Moses Kalangwa, the NRM Chairperson for Kayunga district and her political rival for Kayunga Woman Parliamentary seat Juliet Nalunga to have orchestrated her troubles.
