Three journalists traveling with FDC presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye’s campaign team were today beaten and seriously injured at Aketket primary school Omoro county, who is also the area MP where Besigye is currently campaigning.

The three are Ronald Galiwango of NTV, Anthony Palapande of NBS and Francis Tumwekwasize, a freelance journalist. According to Tumwekwasize, the trio was trying to cover the scuffle between supporters of FDC and Oulanyah.

The incident happened after Gulu district woman Betty Acan tried to inquire why Oulanyah’s supporters were occupying an area where FDC had organised a rally.

“When the woman MP Guru district Betty Acan to find out why the they occupied the venue. Oulanyah ordered his body guard to block her,”said Tumwekwasize.

It’s not clear why Oulanyah had scheduled the meeting since the Electoral Commission suspended all campaigns for Members of Parliament across the country following the resumption of Parliamentary business last week.

When The Sunrise contacted Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa Regional Police Spokesperson, he said he had not received the news of the assault of journalists.

The Sunrise could not get Oulanyah’s side of the story as his telephone was unavailable.
