Jinja journalist seeks 110m for neurosurgery
Busoga’s veteran journalist and long-time presenter Brenda Gimbo has embarked on a mobilization campaign to raise 110m for a neurosurgery in India.
Gimbo who has since the end of last year been suffering with an illness says that last month Doctors at the national referral hospital in Mulago found out that she had a tumour on her brain in the zone where all sense neurons meet.
Gimbo a former employee of Kiira FM and Victoria FM (all in Jinja) where she served as both a news anchor and presenter is a single mother of four.
According to Stanley Bukenya, Gimbo’s brother, the doctors at Mulago hospital advised them to fly their patient to India before the end of this year because the tumor has attacked the most sensitive area.
Joined by concerned members of Agafeno watsapp group, a number of activities have been planned to help in mobilizing the required resources.
This is a social cause that the whole public needs to collectively embrace and support, we have therefore set up a committee as Agafeno whatsapp group which I am chairing to help save our sister” Lawyer Alex Luganda said.
A number of activities have been lined up for this cause, they include among others:
Oct 10th 2016 – A press conference has been planned at Crested Crane Hotel, Jinja. The purpose is to equip the media with all the necessary information needed to mobilise the resources.
Oct 23rd (Sunday): Church service at St James Church Jinja and Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe. At the end of the service at which we will pray for Brenda, those in attendance shall be asked to contribute some monies towards the cause.
Oct 24th: Pentecostal Church Service at Pr. Zachery Sserwadda’s Evangel Church, Oboja Rd and Pr Samuel Kasango’s Jinja Christian Centre during lunch hour prayers.
Oct 28th: Car wash at Dam waters Jinja (Laftaz). Each car will be washed at 50000 and a motorcycle at 20000, then bicycles at 10000 Jinja Mayor Majid Batambuze was tasked by the meeting to coordinate all the corporate companies in Jinja to embrace the car wash by
bringing their cars.
“We are optimistic that if all the above is embraced by all of us, Brenda will get the Ugshs 110m required by the end of this month (October).
