KIU beats MUK to Dentist Course
Kampala International University has upped its game in the training of health professionals to the point that it now beats its competitors in the field of science education hands down, despite its relatively recent founding.
The Sunrise has reliably learnt that the Kabalagala-based university is now the only university in Uganda that has been approved to run a school for dentists.
Dr. Mouhammad Mpezamihigo, the Vice Chancellor of KIU told The Sunrise in an exclusive interview that KIU made the historic achievement following an inspection team from the East African Community (EAC) Medical and Dental Practitioners Council which found that KIU possessed the requirements to run a school for dentists.
“We have the best human resources including very senior staff members, latest equipment for this course. It is less surprising that we were approved as the only university to run a course for dentists in the country,” said Dr. Mpeza.
Dr. Mpeza, as he is commonly referred to said that they carried the inspectors carried out two visits in 2015 and in 2019 and in both cases, found that KIU had the facilities as well as the qualified human resource to teach dentists.
KIU’s approval is however bad news for Makerere University and some of its students who have been doing the course as the university has been directed stop teaching dentists and transfer the students to either KIU, University of Nairobi or Muhimbili University Of Health And Allied Sciences.
