A tragic aviation accident has claimed the lives of all 14 people on board after a passenger aircraft crashed approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Juba on Monday, April 27, 2026. The aircraft, a Cessna 208 Caravan registered as 5Y-NOK and operated by CityLink Aviation Ltd., was flying from Yei to Juba International Airport when it went down.
According to an official statement released by the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA), the flight departed Yei at 09:15 AM and lost communication at 09:43 AM while en route to the capital. On board were 13 passengers and one pilot. Authorities confirmed that there were no survivors among the 14 occupants, who included two Kenyan nationals and 12 South Sudanese nationals.
Preliminary findings suggest that adverse weather conditions, particularly low visibility, may have contributed to the crash. However, officials emphasized that investigations are still ongoing and a full report will be released once more verified information becomes available.
Emergency response teams from the aviation authority have been dispatched to the crash site to conduct investigations and assist in recovery efforts. The incident marks a devastating loss for the families affected and raises fresh concerns about aviation safety in the region, especially under challenging weather conditions.
The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority extended its deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, pledging to provide updates as the situation develops.
