Uganda Attracts Chinese Investors as Ambassador Wonekha Leads Delegation to Liao Shen Industrial Park
Uganda has taken another significant step in strengthening its economic ties with China, as Oliver Wonekha, Uganda’s Ambassador in Beijing, led a high-level Chinese delegation to the Liao Shen Industrial Park as part of the Uganda–China Coffee Investment and Destination Tour 2026.
The delegation was warmly received by General Manager Shaidah, who provided an in-depth briefing on the industrial park’s development since its establishment in 2015. Spanning approximately 5.2 square kilometres, the park is projected to accommodate between 50 and 80 factories at full capacity, with 34 already operational, underscoring Uganda’s growing appeal as a manufacturing hub in East Africa.
Highlighting Uganda’s competitive edge in attracting foreign direct investment, Shaidah emphasized a range of incentives offered to investors. These include a 10-year tax holiday, access to a youthful and affordable labour force, strong government support, and the assurance of 100% profit repatriation. Investors also benefit from access to regional markets through initiatives such as Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) , which promotes local production and consumption.
The visit also unveiled forward-looking plans to establish a mineral industrial park at Uganda’s border, aimed at boosting value addition in the mining sector and further positioning the country as a strategic investment destination in Africa.
As part of the tour, the Chinese delegation visited key manufacturing facilities within the park, including Sawa Ceramics and Venus Electronics. At these plants, delegates observed the production processes of essential goods such as ceramic products, energy-saving bulbs, and electrical extension cables, demonstrating Uganda’s expanding industrial capacity.
The visit reinforces Uganda’s commitment to industrialization, export growth, and deepening bilateral relations with China, positioning the country as a prime destination for investment in manufacturing and value addition.
