The High Court in Kampala has ruled that widow Molly Katanga has a case to answer in connection with the death of her husband, businessman Henry Katanga, who was found dead from gunshot wounds in the family home.

The ruling, delivered on Thursday by Justice Rosette Comfort Kania, determined that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence to require Ms Katanga and the co-accused to formally present their defence in the ongoing legal proceedings.

Justice Kania also confirmed that four other individuals, Ms Katanga’s daughters Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi, the family’s medical officer Charles Otai, and domestic worker George Amanyire, have a case to answer for allegedly destroying evidence and assisting in matters related to the case.

The court has adjourned the matter for the defence hearing on March 26, 2026, when all five accused will provide explanations regarding the circumstances surrounding Henry Katanga’s death.

According to reports, the incident occurred on November 2, 2023, at the Katanga family home in Mbuya, Kampala. Molly was reportedly found unconscious with injuries to her head and hands. The exact circumstances of Henry Katanga’s death remain under investigation, with the accused maintaining that he died by suicide following a domestic dispute.

Ms Katanga has been on remand at Luzira Prison for over a year. The trial will proceed to determine the facts of the case.
