Uganda Police Force, working with other security agencies, has arrested four suspects accused of impersonating Mrs. Natasha Museveni Karugire on TikTok and WhatsApp and allegedly defrauding members of the public.

According to a police statement, investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly created multiple fake social media accounts using Mrs. Karugire’s photographs and identity. Police said the fraudsters targeted individuals seeking financial assistance, asking them to pay “registration fees” or “processing charges” before receiving any supposed help.

Authorities added that victims were instructed to send money to telephone numbers provided by the suspects, believing it was required before receiving the promised assistance.

Acting on intelligence, security teams conducted operations in Iganga Municipality, resulting in the arrest of four suspects identified as Isabirye Ashiraf, Mulondo Rahman, Kakaire Zubair, and Egesa Sharif. Police stated that upon arrest, the suspects were found in possession of several SIM cards and mobile phones believed to have been used in the alleged scam.

The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be charged in court with cyber fraud and impersonation-related offences.

Uganda Police issued a warning to the public against sending money to individuals online who demand fees in exchange for assistance.

"The public is strongly cautioned against sending money to any individuals online who demand registration or processing fees in exchange for jobs, scholarships, or financial assistance. Reputable individuals and institutions do not solicit payment through social media platforms"

Police urged the public to verify all offers through official channels, report suspicious activity, and remain vigilant against online scams. Suspected cases can be reported through Uganda Police hotlines: 080199699, 0714667743, or 0776999136.
