Buju Banton released after seven years of Drug charges
Jamaican Dancehall and reggae artiste Mark Anthony Myrie alias Buju Banton is finally out after serving seven years in McRae Correctional Facility in Georgia.
Myrie was arrested and sentenced to ten years behind bars in February 2011 after being convicted of conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute it.
The Jamaican living legend is celebrated in Uganda because his music and hoarse voice was the reason why artistes like Bebe Cool joined the industry. It was from Buju Banton’s Gargamel music that Uganda’s Bebe Banton, now Bebe Cool, started his Gagamel music group.
Many artistes could not keep the joy of Buju’s release to themselves so they shared their feelings on their social media platforms.
“Today is a glorious day. Buju is free. Let’s go! ‘P.Diddy, American rapper shared on his Instagram
Uganda’s Bebe Cool had this to say: “Thank you Allah, Bujju Banton is finally free. He’s the reason I started to sing, the horse voice was amazing that I had to learn how to execute it, many people have always failed to understand the style but I was always proud of my voice because of a legend that made a lot of sense and made a big impact on Africa and the rest of the world using lyrical information in REGGAE music.
His concert in Uganda, organized by one Winston Mayanja in the 90’s was my 1st biggest international stage only that I had to pay too much to be on that stage.”
