Singer Khalifa Aganaga

Sadat Mukiibi commonly known as Khalifa Aganaga, is an Afro dancehall singer with a number of hit to his name. The 29 year old is a law student at Kampala International University. His reason for pursuing law of all courses is because he wants join politics and uproot fellow artist Kato Lubwama from Lubaga South as the area Member of Parliament.

Mukiibi has had a time of his life in the entertainment industry. From being managed by Manager Emma Carlos to managing Fresh Daddy. He tells The Sunrise’s Fahad Kasibante about his musical career and his political ambitions.

Do you think music with artistes like Fresh Daddy has a future?

I think the music industry is growing. It is now making money. The existence of artistes like Fresh daddy proves that music is an investment.

People say you chased Fresh Daddy, why did the two of you separate?

We did not separate with Fresh Daddy because from the start I wanted to use my talent to uplift someone and it happened. Fresh Daddy was not a musician that is why he managed to start up his saloon soon enough. He is currently at take-off stage.

You wear earings. What is your take on Sheikh Muzaata’s claim that men who wear earimgs and tight jeans belong to the other world.

I am a muslim and Quran does accept revolution. Things are not the way they started. There is a reason why Arabs dress that way and before we make conclusions, one must recall the experience of their youthful days.

Muzaata’s days had no social media. There was little or no access to phones. Artistes like Basudde used to compose hit songs about their experiences abroad. Things have changed. Many are groomed by situations. Muzaata’s accusations are not bad. The problem is judging people who have toiled their entire life to make ends meet. So before one points a finger, a question should be posed, did you nurture them?

You are capable of officially marrying someone. Why haven’t you done so?

As you well know, I am two in one. There is Khalifah you are talking to and the artiste. As an artiste, it is not easy for me to get someone as early as this. If you marry someone without studying them, they are likely to end up like Rema. My major focus is financially develop before I get a companion.

Why do you think musicians are cosying with the NRM?

Bobi Wine has a weakness, he is not convincing. He should give his right hand people assurance of getting big positions in People Power. All he does is keep quiet. I see him making promises to his followers but that is not enough. It is his fellow performers who need the promises. They need to know how much they will get before they decide how far they can go.

Given a chance, would you also proudly ‘meet’ the President?

I want to be invited because of my developmental ideas. Ideas that can help fellow youths when implemented. Everyone is complaining so what is the way forward? I will not ask the president for a car worth 500M but rather, I would take the same amount of money to the youths to see how life can be changed. It is a reason why I want a parliamentary seat.

Words to a ghetto youth out there.

To a ghetto youth in Lubaga South, this is your time. We all have challenges but it’s time to work for your self today.
