The Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Joseph Eciru Oliach, has called on married couples to prioritize prayer over alcohol consumption.

Speaking during a ceremony at St. Catherine Catholic Church at Osudio Primary School, which marked St. Simon’s parish day, the bishop officiated the marriage of 35 couples and confirmed more than 280 children and adults. He stressed the value of persistent prayer and good deeds, cautioning that “good efforts can be undermined when one is under the influence of alcohol.”

Joseph Andrew Koluo, the Toroma County Member of Parliament who attended the event, supported the bishop’s message, warning that excessive drinking often leads to domestic violence and other tragic consequences for couples. Koluo also highlighted concerns about youth involvement with opium, pointing out the legal risks they face if apprehended by law enforcement.

Solomon Ossiya, a candidate for the Toroma County parliamentary seat, reinforced the message about alcohol, noting that “excessive drinking can ruin lives and hinder personal development.” He encouraged moderate consumption, emphasizing that it enables individuals to make informed decisions.
