Uganda Kicks Off CHAN 2025 Campaign Against Algeria in Kampala Showdown

The highly anticipated TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, is set to ignite on August 2nd, with host nation Uganda opening its campaign against Algeria on August 4th at the iconic Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially released the tournament schedule on Friday, setting the stage for a month of thrilling continental club football. The Championship, which brings together 19 teams comprised exclusively of players plying their trade in their respective domestic leagues, was originally slated for last year but was rescheduled to 2025.

While Tanzania will have the honor of playing the opening match against Burkina Faso on August 2nd in Dar es Salaam, all eyes in Uganda will be on the Cranes as they embark on their Group C journey. Uganda finds itself in a formidable group alongside North African powerhouse Algeria, West African contenders Niger and Guinea, and Southern African giants South Africa.

Under the guidance of coaches Fred Muhumuza and Morley Byekwaso, the Uganda Cranes will navigate a challenging group stage. Following their opener against Algeria, they will face Guinea on August 8th, before battling Niger three days later on August 11th. The Cranes will then conclude their group stage fixtures with what promises to be an explosive encounter against South Africa, a match that could very well determine their progression in the tournament.

The CHAN tournament provides a unique platform for local talent to shine on the international stage, offering fans a glimpse into the depth and quality of African domestic leagues. As co-hosts, Uganda will be keen to make a strong impression on home soil, with the support of a passionate football-loving nation. The countdown to kick-off has officially begun!
