Over 2,000 residents of Kagadi District have shown interest in joining the police as Special Police Constables (SPCs) for the upcoming elections.
According to Kagadi District Police Commander SP Ameru Philemon, a total of 2,034 people from across the district submitted applications for the recruitment exercise. He urged all applicants to remain “disciplined, cooperative, and patriotic” as they aspire to serve the nation during the election period.
DPC Joseph Ayesiga confirmed that the recruitment process went on successfully, noting that approximately 440 candidates will be shortlisted for a one-month training session. The training will take place before the deployment of officers for the 2026 general elections.
Meanwhile, Kibaale Resident District Commissioner Steven Byaruhanga Nfashingabo appealed to the applicants to maintain discipline and perform their duties with diligence once selected. He explained that successful candidates will first go through a screening process, after which they will attend training lasting between one and two weeks at designated police training centers before being deployed.
In neighboring Kikuube District, DPC SP Abel Barugahare reported that the recruitment interviews, which started on Wednesday, are progressing well. Out of 826 applicants, 745 had been interviewed by Thursday, and the exercise is expected to conclude on Friday.
He encouraged those who succeed to serve with “commitment and discipline,” while advising those who do not make it to “remain hopeful for future opportunities.”
