The Uganda–Tanzania Tourism Roadshow held at the Hyatt Regency in Dar es Salaam has reinforced a shared commitment between the two nations to strengthen regional tourism cooperation, expand business linkages, and promote East Africa as a unified travel destination.

Organized by the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam under the theme “Promoting Regional Tourism Partnerships & Business Linkages,” the event brought together key stakeholders from across the tourism sector in both countries.

The engagement focused on advancing joint strategies aimed at positioning East Africa as a competitive and integrated tourism market, capable of attracting more global travelers through collaboration rather than competition.

Speaking during the event, Deputy High Commissioner Elizabeth Allimadi emphasized the importance of regional partnerships in strengthening tourism value chains and enhancing destination competitiveness. She noted that tourism continues to play a critical role in driving economic growth and fostering people-to-people relations across borders.

From the private sector, President of the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators Willy Chambulo underscored the need for collaboration within the region, while Vice President of the Uganda Tourism Association Isa Kato called for stronger private sector participation to effectively implement regional integration frameworks.

The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) used the platform to showcase the country’s diverse tourism offerings, including gorilla trekking, wildlife safaris, birding, and primate experiences. These attractions continue to position Uganda as one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations.

A key milestone of the roadshow was the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between the Uganda Tourism Association, the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators, and the Zanzibar Association of Tour Operators. The agreements focus on joint marketing, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and coordinated tourism promotion across the region.

The event concluded with Business-to-Business (B2B) engagements, providing stakeholders with opportunities to build partnerships and explore new avenues for collaboration.

The roadshow is expected to contribute to increased tourist flows, encourage innovation in tourism products, and further deepen regional integration within the East African tourism sector.
