Political Party Mobilizer Flees Country Fearing for His Life

Victor Lukonge, a 22-year-old political mobilizer, reportedly went missing after surviving a kidnapping attempt in Buziga, Makindye Division, Kampala.

Sources revealed that Lukonge had previously informed local authorities about being followed by a vehicle commonly referred to as a “drone.”

A source, speaking anonymously, disclosed that Lukonge had been trailed multiple times and recently escaped from armed men at a supermarket in Makindye trading center.

Another anonymous source claimed that unidentified men have been abducting youth in the Makindye area, with several still unaccounted for.

Lukonge, a vocal supporter and mobilizer for the National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s leading opposition party, is believed to have fled the country.

Sources suggest he may be seeking asylum in the US or Europe due to fears for his safety.

In recent weeks, Ugandan media has reported a surge in abductions allegedly linked to state security forces, with victims taken to undisclosed locations without access to lawyers or family.

On November 29, the NUP reported to the Uganda Human Rights Commission that 25 of its supporters have been missing since 2020. The party noted that six were abducted in November in various parts of Kampala by a man in military uniform accompanied by three armed men in civilian clothing.
