UNRA grader crashes 3 to death in Gulu
A Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) grader registration number UAR 417Y killed three people on Friday Aug 4 in Gulu municipality.
The accident happened at Lagwiny near Bugnatira Sub-County headquarters in Gulu district at around 11:30am as the boda boda rider took home two children he had picked from Faith Nursery School, Bungatira. The two children were identified as Agenorwot Bakita 5, and Johnson Odong also aged 5 while the boda boda rider was identified as Solomon Okot 33.
The children died as they were being taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital while Okot died from the hospital.
Aswa region police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident and said the driver of the UNRA grader, Idi Kusemererwa 53, was detained at Gulu Central police Station to help police with Investigations.
“We are holding the driver of the grader for questioning. The road is under construction but we have to establish what happened and the driver will help us to give information regarding this accident that has caused three people to lose their lives,” Okema said.
The body of the three victims are at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem.
Police impounded the grader at Gulu Central police station.
Okema advised road users to have respect for each other and be careful while using roads under construction to prevent accidents on such roads.
Meanwhile, Thomas Oboma, the Chairman Gulu District Boda Association, urged police traffic department to do more sensitization to help riders on road usage.
