Brig. Musanyufu appointed Joint Chief of Staff of UPDF
President Yoweri Museveni has promoted Brig. Joseph Musanyufu to the rank of Major General and appointed him the Joint Chief of Staff (JCOS) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
The UPDF Joint Chief of Staff (JCOS) is the main coordinator of the three main arms of the UPDF thus; the Land Forces, The Air Force and the Special Forces.
According to out-going army Spokesperson Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, the Joint Chief of Staff also coordinates all functions of the UPDF General Headquarters branches, implementing policies as laid down by High Command, plans for developing the force and maintenance of disciplinary standards of the force.
Maj Gen Musanyufu has been the Chief of Personnel and Administration (CPA) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces since 2014.
Prior to that, he held several appointments in the Defence forces with the recent ones being the Chief Comptroller Finance of the UPDF and later the Chief of Integrated Resource Management Information System. He joined the National Resistance Army in August 1985.
The new Joint Chief of Staff has done several mainstream courses of the Army, notably Staff College from the USA and National Defence College, India. Major General Joseph Musanyufu is taking over the Office of JCOS from Lt. Gen. Wilson Mbadi who was two days ago promoted from the rank of Major General to Lieutenant General and appointed the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces.
